ISKCON Almvik (Sweden)
ISKCON Almvik is a non-profit organisation and a community founded 1994 and is active in Södertälje commune. The values shared by everyone in Almvik are that all beings are originally spiritual and the aim of human life is to realize our spiritual nature which is eternal, full of spiritual knowledge and spiritual happiness.
Almvik is governed by a democratic Board consisting of seven members with chairman. We are growing vegetables, grains, we have cows and oxen, a sawmill, a bakery, a boutique, conference rooms, educational rooms/facilities, a playground, a temple, a Sunday feast open for everyone all year around and many festivals during the year when many young guests are coming.
Almviks gard is an organic farm, eco-village with approximately 30 children and 40 adults. We are trying to develop a village with economic, social and environmental sustainability. During all the years since our organisation was created we have many young people who come and help for some time. The main principle of all interactions is volunteerism and non-profit.
We don’t have employed persons with salary but seven persons are working voluntary.
We are EVS accreditated organisation with reference number 2013-SE-48.
The organisation exist for its members but also for others like visitors, congregation (local, regional, national and international) and for people in general as an example of eco-rural life with spiritual values. We also exist for the animals and nature as a whole. We do not make any distinction between gender, ethnicity, old or young.
We have an educational program including yoga, Non-violent Communication, vegetarian cooking-classes, inviting school classes and teachers for in-service-training. Each item has one or more than one persons in charge. Those who are interested in organic farming are often also interested in the social and cultural programs that we are presenting.
We are cooperating with local alternative cultural organisations and with the local state authorities for schooling children and environmental issues. Jonas Henrikson will is an experienced pedagogical worker. He is also EVS coordinator at ALMVIK, experienced at home schooling and community projects. He has experience of running and Erasmus Plus EVS project and has participated in many educational projects in Sweden and Europe and has been active participant and trainer at ELM meetings since 2002.
