The Lotus Trust (United Kingdom)

The Lotus Trust was established in 2005 as an educational, relief and development agency seeking to transform lives and improve the environment both in the UK and overseas. The Lotus Trust aims to raise the quality of life of people throughout the UK, celebrate multiculturalism and diversity, and reach those who may be socially deprived or in isolation. The Lotus Trust plans to raise awareness, provide support and initiate programmes based on sustainable livelihoods, social equity, economic growth and self reliance through community participation.

We hold seminars, workshops and other educational activities in the mentioned areas of activities. Our desire and strong enthusiasm is connected to idea of networking with similar organisations and groups from Europe and world so that our youth work would be more productive, innovative and successful. We work with all, irrespective of belief, religion or race.

Our youth group has over 600 members across the UK and we aim to provide character

development and leadership training through spiritual teachings. We have weekly meetings at

Universities across the UK as well as bi-weekly sessions in local areas for slightly younger as well as older youth on alternate weeks. In addition to this we do regular charity work in the form of cooking for and feeding the homeless, raising money for charities and going into local schools to help teach good values to children.

Key topics our youth group is interested in teaching and developing through our
workshops/seminars/retreats are:

Our organization has regular workshops on issues such as multiculturalism, diversity, sharing

information, developing partnerships with other communities and countries as part of development education. Practical workshops on healthy living and lifestyle training, vegetarian cooking, yoga/meditation, Ayurveda health workshops, stress management. We provide regular training in Indian Classical Dances, Vastu (the science of designing and building houses), Vedic Astrology and Mehndi (temporary, pain-free body decoration alternative to tattooing). At Universities around London area we hold personal development training, confidence building, assertiveness training and presentation skills for students.

We would like to host young volunteers interested in areas of creativity, culture, art, personal growth/development, coaching, healthy lifestyles, social and humanitarian work, multicultural education, community building and development and issues on self sustainability and ecology. We would like to send members of our youth team to volunteer in organisations across Europe and world in similar areas of activities.
